Flexible capture source
Record an entire display, a single window, or a dragged rectangle on the primary display.
Open-source software by Matt Magdon
NNSR is a free Windows screen recorder built for people who want to record a display, a window, or a selected region without configuring a livestreaming suite.
I created NNSR while learning Rust and kept the interface intentionally direct: one window, every important setting visible, and a large record button.
Record an entire display, a single window, or a dragged rectangle on the primary display.
Enable or disable system audio and microphone input separately for each recording.
Encode H.264 or HEVC video into MP4 and choose the bitrate used to control quality and file size.
Choose a global hotkey, customize output filenames, and keep preferences in a small JSON configuration file.
| Capability | Minimum Windows version |
|---|---|
| Screen recording | Windows 10 version 1803 |
| Cursor visibility control | Windows 10 version 2004 |
| Capture-border control | Windows 11 |
| Frame-rate ceiling | Windows 11 24H2 |
NNSR is written in Rust and released under the MIT License. Its tests cover filename safety, configuration bounds, audio mixing, screenshot capture, MP4 finalization, audio-track output, and cropped-region orientation.
The application is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen can warn on first launch. The complete source and build instructions are public for inspection.
